Decorating with flowers – simple ideas that won’t break the bank

As the holiday season approaches, a lot of you will be entertaining family and friends. Here are a few simple ideas to cost-effectively use flowers around the house.

When decorating with flowers, be creative, you’ll discover the possibilities are endless. And it doesn’t have to be expensive, either. To add an element of surprise, start out by collecting all the things around your house that can hold water. Here’s a few ideas to get you started…

Old watering cans, ceramic pitchers, kettles and teapots are great containers for larger arrangements.

Champagne or wine glasses with a single bloom in each will turn any dinner into an elegant occasion.

Soda bottles, wine bottles, mason jars or colored glass bottles are great for a more casual affair. Try clustering them on a coffee table or buffet with flowers in each. Highlight them with a few votive candles.

Shallow bowls and dishes are perfect for floating flower heads. Try adding floating candles for a shimmering effect.

Once you know what you have to work with, the rest is easy. Just add flowers!

Got any other inexpensive decorating ideas you’d like to share? I love to hear them.
