Vision, creativity, and dedicated people – UCPSEW’s formula for success

UCPSEW Open House Invitation

Last week, I had the pleasure to volunteer some time to help with decorating an open house for United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin. The event, which was held on October 25th, coincided with [tag]National Disabilities Awareness Month[/tag], and its purpose was to recognize and thank those who have helped UCP of Southeastern Wisconsin in various ways over the years.

A couple of weeks before the event, I got a call from Gail Valenti, the Director of Development and Community Relations, asking if we could meet to discuss some ideas she had to decorate for the open house.

After showing me the theme and explaining her vision for the event, we discussed a few ideas I thought she could do based on what she already had to work with. We also created a short list of things we needed to work with.

Because the open house was held at the agency’s offices, set up could be done the day before, which helped. I was able to do some of the basic floral work at that time.

However, when I arrived to finish up the next day, I was absolutely amazed at what I saw. The job Gail and her crew did could be described in one word… Awesome!

The reception area, conference room, and the [tag]Charlie Kapp Resource Center[/tag] were completely transformed. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. And best of all, the decorating work was done with all donated or borrowed materials.

It really shows what you can do when you have vision, creativity, and dedicated people to make it happen. It’s UCP’s formula for success, and it’s why I’m proud to be associated with such a great organization.
