A Beginners Guide To Arranging Irises And Tulips In A Vase

The concept behind this video tutorial is to teach you how to create an arrangement that is both eye-catching and easy to put together, using ten standard irises, ten yellow tulips, and ten pink tulips.

It’s a fun way of learning the basics of floral design. This tutorial is excellent for beginners and those who would love to know more about making a simple arrangement with spring flowers like these.

I think you’ll like the video. Watch it and see.

Wouldn’t you agree that this is a quick and easy method to arrange fresh flowers? And this design technique can be used with lots of flowers, not only iris and tulips.

Bet you can’t wait to try this yourself.

Here Are The Steps To Follow

Step 1. Properly Process Your Flowers Upon arrival, cut the stems but leave the tulips in their sleeve. Doing so will help to keep the tulip stems straight. Place the tulips into a vase of cold water mixed with cut bulb flower food. We use Chrysal bulb food in the shop, but Floralife bulb food is also excellent. They help extend the vase life of all bulb flowers, including tulips, hyacinth, iris, freesia, gladiolas, and lilies, by up to 60%. Make sure to use as directed on the packet.

You can also substitute clear universal flower food from either brand if necessary.

Step 2. Arrange Your Flowers Once processed and hydrated, begin your arrangement by filling your container with cold, clean water that has been pre-mixed with bulb flower food. Save any unused amount to add later. I refrigerate the water I save.

Begin by adding your tulips throughout the arrangement or group the bunches in separate areas, as shown in the video. The choice is yours. Then finish by adding your irises, some above the tulips and some below, as shown in the video.

If you choose irises or tulips in bud form that are just beginning to show color, it will take a couple of days for them to open if left out at room temperature.

If you need your arrangement to be showy immediately, choose flowers that are already open, like those used in the video.

Step 2. Maintaining Your Arrangement

Tulips always grow toward the light and will continue to “stretch” as they develop. Keep your arrangement out of direct sunlight. Make sure to rotate your vase to keep your tulips from leaning too far in one direction. They also open and close naturally in response to temperature changes.

If you used bulb flower food, you should not change the water. Top it off by adding cold water with bulb flower food you saved.
