Think Outside-Of-The-Box: Use Flowers And Plants As Wedding Favors

Weddings are one of the most special events in life. They bring together two families and celebrate the union of two individuals.

They are also an opportunity to express gratitude towards those who helped you reach this point in your life.

As such, favors are given away to your wedding guests as a show of appreciation.

Why Use Flowers And Plants?

As a florist, I always look for ways to maximize the value of my client’s wedding flower budget.

Whether working with a florist or a DIYer, don’t overlook using flowers and plants as wedding favors. They are a cost-effective wedding favor solution.

This article will share ways to use flowers and plants as wedding favors. They make memorable, useful, eco-friendly gifts and, in addition, may help you save money on your wedding decor.

Fresh Cut Flowers

Fresh-cut flowers are a popular wedding favor idea, yet often overlooked. Flowers are inexpensive, thoughtful gifts for guests to take home after the ceremony. After all, everyone, especially women, remembers the last time they received flowers as a gift.

Use flowers as your favor, and they’ll remember your kindness forever.

But flowers are also cost-effective because they can double as table decor for your wedding reception.

Bud vases containing several stems of cut flowers can be grouped together and used as a wedding centerpiece.

Your choice of vases can be an eclectic mix of styles and sizes, or they can all be alike. All types of vases can be used, from bud vases to mason jars and everything in between.

This video clip will show you how it’s done.

As you can see, the process is pretty simple. It will work on traditional round banquet tables and a long king’s table.

The look can be softened by using an underlayment of material, a table runner, or by including votive candles. As a finishing touch, add personalized gift tags to each vase.

As your guests leave the reception, encourage them to take one of the vases as a token of your gratitude.

Flowers are especially appropriate as favors for outdoor weddings since they symbolize growth and renewal.

Inexpensive bouquets that you can break apart and use can be found online, at your local florist, or in grocery store floral departments.

Give Away Potted Plants

Potted plants are another ideal wedding favor option. Guests appreciate receiving potted plants as gifts because they are practical and useful and usually don’t require them to have green thumbs.

Potted plants, whether flowering, green, succulents, or potted herbs, come in various sizes and shapes, allowing you to choose plants that match your style and budget.

Place them into a decorative ceramic or clay pot, or choose materials to wrap the pots that complement your wedding decor.

Like fresh flowers, plants can be grouped similarly or placed in a larger container, such as a basket or clay saucer, and used as guest table centerpieces.

For a splash of color, add fresh flowers in water tubes to each plant. Finish the plant off with personalized gift tags on each pot.

Along with a personalized gift tag, include instructions on caring for the plants.

If you want to buy potted plants in bulk for wedding favors, I recommend buying them from a local greenhouse or garden center when possible.

Contact a local florist if you don’t have any local retail greenhouses. They should be able to source them for you.

Be aware that not all potted plants ship as well as fresh flowers. They usually need a little greenhouse time to acclimate before being sold.

Air plants and mini-succulents are an exception. Both of these plants ship well. If you’re interested, you can find a good selection online.

Include A Meaningful Message

Don’t forget to include a thank you note with your wedding favors.

Thanking your guests goes a long way in showing your appreciation for their presence at your wedding.

It shows that you care about their feelings and lets them know that you value their friendship.

A handwritten thank you card is a lovely gesture. But it isn’t always practical or necessary.

You can simply send a quick, personalized email thanking everyone afterward for attending your wedding.

This small gesture will remind your guests of your wedding and let them know you care about them.

Where To Find More Inspiration

Now that you know how to use flowers and plants for wedding favors, you can find plenty of flower and plant-inspired ideas online.

Use Pinterest to search for images of wedding favors, seed packets, seedlings, and other garden-inspired favors. You’ll find all kinds of ideas there.

If you can’t find anything that moves you, there are tons of websites dedicated to wedding decorating ideas.

Wrapping It All Up

Remember, weddings celebrate love, and flowers and plants are symbols of beauty, joy, happiness, and gratitude. They are perfect to use as wedding favors.

Use them to express your gratitude for the support of your friends and family.
