Working with UGlu adhesive dashes can be tricky. Here are five tips on using them effectively.
Working With UGlu Adhesive Dashes? Try These Actionable Tips
Unless you’re a floral designer who has been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about UGlu adhesive dashes. They are removable, pressure-sensitive adhesive dashes that bond instantly and permanently without the mess of glue.
Professional florists have been using them for a while now, but they have recently become popular with DIYers trying their hand at floral design.
Whether or not you’ve used adhesive dashes, this video will show you some quick tips when using them in your floral design work. Everything you need to know to ensure you get the best results possible.
Here Are The 5 UGlu Dash Tips
- Cut or trim the dash to fit the job size; otherwise, you will partially expose your dash. You will need to add more materials to conceal it, which can look sloppy and unprofessional.
Dashes measure 1/2″ by 1/2″, but in my experience, you rarely need to use the whole dash. When cutting a UGlu dash in half or thirds, cut horizontally across the edge to allow the removal of the paper backing.
For that reason, I avoid cutting dashes vertically.

- Use clean scissors. Since I use scissors with stainless steel blades, I remove any adhesive residue with white vinegar before I begin cutting dashes. I dip the blades in water to keep them from getting sticky or gummed up while I work.
- For the best adhesion, ensure the surfaces you are applying the dashes to are clean and dry, dust and dirt free. I wipe dry all surfaces before I apply dashes.
While it doesn’t always happen, moisture from refrigeration can loosen the bond. If it does, applying a drop of cold glue to the dash will work to secure the bond.

- Since moisture can loosen the bond, you can easily remove UGlu dashes by soaking them with water and removing them from hard surfaces without damage.
I’ve done this with plastic, acrylic, and glass containers, and it works well.

- One of the more valuable benefits of UGlu dashes is that they can serve as another set of hands, helping to hold things in place while you are working on them.
I rely on them a lot for that reason alone.
I haven’t scratched the surface of everything you can do with UGlu dashes. They’re that useful.
Once you begin using UGlu dashes, you’ll wonder how you survived without them. At least, that’s the way it’s been for me.
And if you’re like me, the more you use them, the more you’ll continue to discover new ways to use them.
